This is a beautifully detailed model made by the highly regarded maker Degen has been long out of production. SS Liberte French Line 1954 Built by Blohm & Voss at Hamburg and completed in 1930 as Europa for NDL’s Bremerhaven – New York service. She gained the Blue Riband with a record crossing to New York at 27.91 knots in July 1933. Became a barracks ship at Bremerhaven during WWII, commissioned as a USN troop transport in August 1945. To France 1946, renamed Liberte. After repair and renovation made her first Le Havre – New York crossing for CGT in August 1950. Now 51,839 gross tons, quadruple screws with steam turbines, service speed 24 knots, passenger capacity 569 1st, 562 Cabin and 382 Tourist class. Her funnels were heightened in 1954, as shown by the model. Withdrawn from service in November 1961, broken up at La Spezia 1962.
