Old helmet style brass lifeboat or yacht binnacle with liquid-filled gimbaled compass. Side burner with hinged door and burner , but the burner is not functional. The 4 inch compass is inworking order the alcohol fill is discoloured and gimble is a little stiff. The brass surface may have been polished at one stage by previous owner but its internal surfaces are well aged. Bottom ring measures 8 3/4 inches 223mm in diameter at base and is a similar height.
