An original W.Ottway & Co Ltd, Artillery Bore Sight No 416, pattern no. G2021. Broad arrow marked, brass finished I suspect this has been polished and coated, with a rubber eye piece. Eye piece has deteriorated and some rubber is on the glass but the cross hairs are quite visible. Ottway & Co manufactured various scopes for the British military during WWI & WWII. Comes in wooden case which has had some repair and new leather restrainers added at some stage. The box measures: L=26.5” X W=7.5” X H=3.25” and the cradles for the scope are lined with green felt.
I believe it is WWI era scope and Naval in origin, its primary use was as a bore sighting device aboard ships with guns that fired directly at there targets at a lesser range, than the large guns which were automatically laid on there targets. The box is marked exterior grade please see all the images.
