This is a pictorial record of the role played by the P&O group during the Falkland’s war in 1982 the SS Canberra, manned by a volunteer civilian crew carried 2,400 first wave invasion troops within her decks and cabins that had been hastily converted for the troop movement, just two days after returning from a world cruise. Other P&O ships included the Uganda, which was converted into a hospital ship, the P&O ferry Elk , Norland, Anco Charger and the Strathewe.
