Old Spice Late Glass Mug 01A – Mid 1960s

By the late 1940s, Old Spice for Men was extremely popular, Shulton had opened a new plant in Clifton, New Jersey. The Hull Pottery Company was still supplying mugs and bottles, although irregularities in the pottery bottle openings were causing leakage problems. Around 1948 Shulton engaged the help of the Wheaton Glass Company in Millville, New Jersey, glass being a more uniform finished product. To maintain some brand identity consistent with the Early American theme, Wheaton set about producing a proprietary “pottery glass” formula. The mugs and bottles are similar to opal glass, but are manufactured in a clay color with a luster very close to pottery.
